Pre-Cruise Excursions in Zurich

Before setting sail, we'll spend two days exploring the charming city of Zurich. On day one, we'll embark on a captivating city tour, immersing ourselves in Zurich's rich history and vibrant culture. From the bustling Bahnhofstrasse to the tranquil shores of Lake Zurich, every corner of the city offers a new adventure.

On day two, get ready for an unforgettable Swiss Alps tour. We'll journey through breathtaking mountain landscapes, taking in panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and pristine alpine lakes. It's the perfect opportunity to experience the natural beauty and serenity of Switzerland's iconic mountains.

Day 1: Basel, Switzerland Our Viking River Cruise adventure begins in Basel, where we'll embark on our luxurious ship and settle into our stateroom. Basel, nestled at the meeting point of Switzerland, Germany, and France, offers a captivating blend of traditions. From Gothic guild houses to modern art museums, there's something for everyone in this vibrant city. And of course, no visit to Basel is complete without indulging in some Swiss delicacies like cheese fondue or freshly baked croissants.

Day 2: Breisach, Germany Our next stop takes us to Breisach, a gateway to the legendary Black Forest region. Famous for its wine-growing heritage and stunning scenery, Breisach is a feast for the senses. Explore the Romanesque-Gothic St. Stephen's Cathedral, or simply wander the charming streets, taking in the sights and sounds of this historic town.

Day 3: Strasbourg, France Crossing into France, we arrive in Strasbourg, the cultural center of Alsace. With its well-preserved Old Town and picturesque canals, Strasbourg is a true gem. Indulge in Alsatian café culture, sampling local delights amidst charming half-timbered houses.

Day 4: Speyer, Germany Our journey continues to Speyer, a quiet German town with a rich history. Explore the Romanesque imperial cathedral, burial place of eight emperors, and learn about the city's pivotal role in the Protestant Reformation.

Day 5: Koblenz, Germany Koblenz enchants with its cobblestone streets, medieval churches, and ancient market square. Don't miss the iconic equestrian statue of Prince William I at the "German Corner" or the Romanesque Basilica of St. Castor, dating back to 836.

Day 6: Cologne, Germany In Cologne, we delve into the city's Roman heritage and marvel at the awe-inspiring Cologne Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander the city's modern plazas and vibrant streets, soaking in the unique atmosphere of this historic metropolis.

Post-Cruise: Exploring Amsterdam After disembarking in Amsterdam, we had the pleasure of spending two additional days exploring this enchanting city. We cruised along its charming canals, visited vibrant tulip farms, and paid homage to history at the Anne Frank House. Amsterdam's rich cultural heritage and laid-back vibe made it the perfect ending to our European adventure.
